Name Change


Students, faculty, and staff who have registered a designated name or have had a recent legal name change can obtain an updated EmoryCard free of charge with exchange of current, active EmoryCard. Sponsored individuals are eligible for a legal name change card free of charge. Please see below steps in order to obtain a name change EmoryCard:

How to Change Name

Current, enrolled students who would like a new EmoryCard with their new legal or designated name must complete the following:

  1. File a name change with the Emory Registrar's office.
  2. Wait 48+ hours for the name change to be processed in the Emory database
  3. Contact EmoryCard to verify name change has updated in EmoryCard database
  4. Schedule appointment or visit EmoryCard office during normal business hours
  5. You must return your current, active EmoryCard in exchange for the updated card.  If your current card is not provided you will be charged the EmoryCard replacement fee

Please note that once our office produces a new EmoryCard, your current card will stop working. Your access on your new EmoryCard may take an hour to roll over. If access does not roll over, you will need to contact the appropriate department. For Residence Hall access, contact University Housing at housing@emory.edu or 404-727-7631. For classroom/work access, speak with your supervisor who will submit a request.

Current, University employees who would like a new EmoryCard with their new legal or designated name must complete the following:

  1. File a name change with Emory Human Resources via Employee Self Service
  2. Wait 48+ hours for the name change to be processed in the Emory database
  3. Contact EmoryCard to verify name change has updated in EmoryCard database
  4. Schedule appointment or visit EmoryCard office during normal business hours
  5. You must return your current, active EmoryCard in exchange for the updated card.  If your current card is not provided you will be charged the EmoryCard replacement fee

Current, University sponsored indivduals who would like a new EmoryCard with their new legal must complete the following:

  1. Contact the University employee who sponsors your account. They will need to submit a ticket to OIT to update your legal name.
  2. Wait for email from OIT to confirm that they have processed the ticket
  3. Contact EmoryCard to verify name change has updated in EmoryCard database
  4. University employee who sponsors your account must complete Sponsored Account Request Form 
  5. Await confirmation from EmoryCard that form has been processed
  6. Schedule appointment or visit EmoryCard office during normal business hours
  7. You must return your current, active EmoryCard in exchange for the updated card.  If your current card is not provided you will be charged the EmoryCard replacement fee
